Hanukkah Is for the Children
CHANUKAH IS FOR THE CHILDREN (text): It took me until adulthood to fully realize what I thought were universal Chanukah traditions were actually unique to my family. Like the "Chanukah fairy"—created by my mom as a Santa substitute, "Chanukah nuts" we had to crack ourselves and play dreidel with—no doubt healthier option than Chanukah gelt, which I much later realized was the chocolates' true purpose. . . we were never told about sufganiyot! And still, Chanukah was magical then and continues to be now—and filled with so many more possibilities for more creative future generations of traditions. Chag Sameach!
