Helen Winkler

Helen Winkler was born in Montreal, grew up in Toronto and lived in Calgary for 22 years before returning to Toronto. Helen has had a lifelong interest in folk dance and has taught recreational folk dance for 40 years. Her areas of focus include international folk dance, Israeli dance, Yiddish dance and adaptive dance for people with intellectual disabilities. Helen's website on Yiddish dance is recognized as an important resource by dance scholars throughout the world. She also maintains a site devoted to adaptive dance (https://sites.google.com/view/adapteddances/adaptive-dance) and is on the steering committee of the Ontario folk dance association. Helen is a mother to three, Rachel, Leora and Rita, an artist and author with Down syndrome.
